Barot Valley is a mesmerizingly beautiful village located in the serene valleys of Mandi District in the north Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is a newfound tourist destination and is located about 67 kilometers away from Mandi.

If you are a backpacker, this destination is perfect to backpack through for a day or so. The scenic landscapes are captivating, and the unpolluted air draws travelers from across the world for sightseeing and much more. The location is famous for its numerous trekking trails passing through the village and hence is a preferred trekking destination too.

History of Barot Valley

The village of Barot came into the limelight when the Shanan Hydroelectric Project was proposed around 1920 in India. It was mainly to utilize the hydroelectric potential of River Uhl that gushes between Barot and Jogindernagar. It is since then that the village has also been considered a tourist destination, but not many know about this place.

Places To Visit in Barot Valley

For daring water-sport lovers, swimming in the pristine waters of River Uhl is highly recommended.

Bir Billing is about two hours away from Barot Valley. It is a preferred hub for paragliding to exploring the great Himalayan Valleys from an altitude of about 8,000 feet above sea level.

How to Reach Barot Valley

Air

Kangra Airport is the nearest airport. After reaching the airport, you can hire a bus service to reach the Barot Valley in .

Rail

The nearest railway station is Kangra Mandir Railway Station. You can then take a bus from the station which might take approximately 3 hours to reach Barot Valley.

Road

The beautiful valley of Uhl, where Barot is located lies at a distance of 40 kilometers from the town of Jogindernagar and 66 kilometers from . One can avail public buses from Mandi, Jogindernagar, and Palampur to reach Barot. There also are frequent buses plying to Kothikodh, Bada Gran, and Luhardi that pass through Barot.
